some faqs about therapy
Are you accepting new clients?
I sure am!
How do I schedule an appointment?
You may call or e-mail me. I will perform a brief consultation over the phone to determine appropriate fit for the services I provide.
What is therapy?
It’s a collaborative process that involves a therapeutic relationship. The therapeutic relationship is one where the therapist acts as a facilitator of change, helping you gain insight regarding yourself and the world around you. The therapist may also assist you with developing a clearer understanding of your feelings and behaviors and can assist with improving interpersonal relationships.
Is what I say in counseling kept confidential?
Therapists follow legal and ethical guidelines (American Counseling Association). This means that information is kept confidential unless you provide written permission to share it. However, there are some exceptions to this as in the case of child or elder abuse and if there is risk of harm to self/others. In these cases, the therapist will be mandated to report to the authorities to ensure safety.
When will I start to feel better?
There is no specific time frame for feeling better. However, relief may come from changing your thoughts, behaviors, choices and ways of interacting with others. Change will take place over time.
What is your cancellation policy?
Life is unexpected and things come up. However, failure to cancel at least 24 hrs before your scheduled appointment may result in being charged for the cost of the session.
How much is the cost of therapy?
I charge $100 for a 60 minute session. This can be paid with cash, check, or credit card. Please note that I also offer a sliding fee scale to those who need it. A sliding fee scale means that therapeutic services will be offered at a lower rate. However, this is considered on an individual basis given the individual’s circumstances.
What insurances do you participate with?
I am currently participating with Cigna, Independent Health, United Healthcare/Optum, and Blue Cross Blue Shield of WNY.
